Assalamualaikum w.b.t. Hello. I hope all of you are always happy and healthy. I'm Nuramiza binti Abdul Kadir, year 1 student from IIUM Kuantan. I'm from Applied Plant Science student. For our reflective journal 2, I will talk about waste management problem among residents in Kampung Cenderawasih.

INTRODUCTION - WHAT ARE THE PROBLEM?

The problem I want to highlight in this blog is the problem of waste management in my place of residence. This problem has been happening for a long time, since our village does not have a planned waste management system. The villagers had to throw domestic waste in the wrong place. Villagers usually burn their own garbage or dump it in landfills that are not properly managed. There are no garbage trucks that enter our village to take the accumulated garbage to the garbage management place. These uncontrolled dumping sites have attracted the attention of wild animals and threatened the safety of residents, as well as being a risk of spreading disease.

This issue is related to SDG 12. SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production) includes targets focused on environmentally sound management of all waste through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse (targets 12.4 and 12.5) and reduction of food waste (target 12.3).

SOLUTION

In my opinion, this problem can be solved with the JKK of our village providing funds to build a more closed and planned garbage dump where the accumulated garbage will be taken out to the garbage management place at least once a week. In this way, domestic waste in our village will be better planned and controlled so that there is no overflow of domestic waste as well as dangerous diseases that come from garbage dumps that are not properly maintained.

ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE

In Islam, purification is part of faith. This is explained in a hadith of the Prophet SAW: "Purification is one of the characteristics of faith." (Muslim). So, as a Muslim, maintaining cleanliness is our shared responsibility, which is related to this issue. The problem of waste management that arises in our place causes the cleanliness and safety of the surrounding area not to be maintained. This is contrary to the teachings of Islam to prioritize cleanliness in our daily lives. Hopefully this problem can be solved immediately so that the safety and health of the population is more guaranteed.
